I have a confession. I do not like the wedding industry.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my work and am grateful for the people weddings have brought into my life. Even so, there are many things I don’t like about my industry. What am I the most discontented by? This expectation that you must have a wedding that costs five figures in order to start your life as a married couple. I don’t like how complicated planning a wedding is, or how much pressure there is to make it “Pinterest-perfect.”
Seriously, why is this the norm?!
Here’s the secret, so listen close. You do not have to go into debt or spend all your life savings to get married. The only thing you need is your love for and desire to bind yourself with your significant other, two witnesses. and an appointment at the courthouse. Or, a friend with an online ordainment and a county marriage license. Done, married. $25,764 not required (the national average cost of a wedding in 2017, according to www.costofawedding.com).
The definition of a wedding is a marriage ceremony and the celebration following. With a definition so broad, a lot is left up to interpretation. So then the question becomes: what is the right choice for you?
Answering this quintessential question, walking you through your options, sharing industry insights that others won’t, and showing you exactly how to plan your wedding, whatever it looks like, is exactly why I created the Planning Gathering. I want to help you create a wedding that tells your story, and I want it to be a fun time planning, not stressful or confusing.
The Planning Gathering is for couples who are ready to plan a wedding that is truly their own. For the couple that has a set budget and wants to stick to it. For those who don’t want to make their wedding choices based on what is marketed, trending, or expected. Who want to have an awesome wedding day full of fun and love, without the stress. And for the couple who simply wants a better understanding of all the pieces and people that make up a wedding. If that’s you, then the courses, blog, community and podcast that make up the Planning Gathering are here for you.
On the Planning Gathering Podcast we will talk about everything to do with weddings with an emphasis on having real, honest conversations. We will talk with wedding industry professionals about their work, what goes into it, what works, what doesn’t, and why you should or shouldn’t hire a vendor. We are going to talk about the real crazy stuff that happens sometimes.
Above all, I want to share insights with you that you can’t find anywhere else. My goal is to pull back the curtains of illusion and show you the real behind-the-scenes of the wedding industry. No frills, no “hop on this trend bandwagon” talk. Just support and help. We are so excited to share the first episode today, and I hope you gain a lot from it! The Planning Gathering Podcast will be available everywhere you find podcasts, including Apple and Google Play.
